An Introduction to Home Security

We all worry about the safety of our homes and keeping our loved ones safe. When it comes to home invasion there are a few things that you can do to protect yourself and your family from a burglary.

#1 WALK AROUND THE EXTERIOR OF YOUR HOME

Make sure that you survey your property for vulnerable spots or spots you might be attracted to as a burglar. Make sure that you look for any expensive items that can be seen from a distance. You might want to find a way to conceal these items or block their view.

#2 BUILDING YOUR DEFENSES

A fence can go a long way when keeping potential burglars off of your property. The best type of fence is a chain-link one that you can see into but that cannot help potential intruders hide. Plus, you can always get a dog. Sometimes nothing is scarier that a loud bark that you weren’t expecting!

#3 GET TO KNOW YOUR NEIGHBORS

There’s nothing wrong with being friendly, right? Getting to know your neighbors means that your neighbors are more likely to look out for you (and vice-versa) and therefore are more likely to report any kind of unwanted/suspicious behavior. Plus, they might be home at times that you are not and therefore could offer an additional layer of security.

#4 SECURE YOUR CAR

Always make sure that your car and anything valuable in it is locked and put away. If someone sees something in your driveway, or on the street, they are more likely to break in and potentially target your home.
